Journal of Health Economics

The Journal of Health Economics is an economics journal whose focus is health economics. The Journal of Health Economics is edited by the Dutch publisher Elsevier with a frequency of six issues per year and is regarded as one of the leading journals in the field of health economics.

History

The Journal of Health Economics was first published in 1982 by North -Holland Publishing with Joseph P. Newhouse (Harvard Medical School ) as an editor and Anthony J. Culyer ( University of York), to meet the growing demand for a professional journal, the research on the application of economic methods and approaches to health policy questions would publish to meet. While the publication frequency of the Journal of Health Economics at the beginning was only three issues per year, the number of expenditure in 1984 grew to four, and finally in 1995 to five in 1996 to six issues per year.

Content

The Journal of Health Economics seeks articles which deal with the economics of health and medical system. The scope of the journal here includes the following topics:

  • The production of health and health care;
  • The demand for and use of health care;
  • The financing of health care;
  • The assessment of health;
  • Behavioral models of customers, vendors and other agents of health care;
  • Gesudnheitsverhalten political and public health interventions;
  • Efficiency and equity of health policy.

Other topics are also given when the editors declare their agreement. In particular, applications of modern health economics to the problems in both developed and less developed countries are welcomed.

Editing

The editors of the Journal of Health Economics consists of Martin Chalkley ( University of York ), David M. Cutler (Harvard University ), Richard G. Frank ( Harvard Medical School), Adriana Lleras - Muney ( University of California, Los Angeles), Nigel Rice ( University of York), Luigi Siciliani ( University of York) and Andrew D. Street ( University of York ) and 18 Associate Editors.

Reception

In a study of Kalaitzidakis et al. (2003) documented the Journal of Health Economics, No. 71 of 159 evaluated publications, but could be in an updated study of Kalaitzidakis et al. (2011) ranked 31 out of 209 increase compared publications. In economics publication ranking of the Tinbergen Institute at the University of Amsterdam led the Journal of Health Economics in the category A ( " very good general economics journals and top journals in their field ").

The journal has an impact factor of 1.600 (as of 2012). In the statistics of the Social Sciences Citation Index, the magazine is out on 72nd of 333 journals in the category Economics. In the category of health policy and health service the Journal Rank 31 occupied by 67 journals.
