Jouy-en-Josas

Jouy -en- Josas is a municipality with 8211 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the French department of Yvelines, in the Ile- de -France region. It is located four kilometers south of Versailles and 15 kilometers southwest of Paris. Jouy -en- Josas is a small town in the valley of Bièvre.

Geography

Jouy -en- Josas is situated in the " Vallée de la Bièvre " on the northeastern edge of the Yvelines department. Neighboring communities of Jouy -en- Josas Velizy- Villacoublay and Versailles are in the north, Bièvres in the east, Saclay and Toussus -le -Noble in the south and Les Loges -en- Josas and Buc in the West.

History

Christophe- Philippe Oberkampf, who was elected mayor in 1790, operating in Jouy -en- Josas until 1844 his famous cotton spinning and cloth manufacture. To this day, in France Toile de Jouy ( Jouystoff ) a synonym for high-quality printed cotton fabric.

Etymology

The name " Jouy " comes from the Latin gaudium, joy (French joie ). « Josas " was the name of a former church district of the Archdiocese of Paris.

Education and Research

Jouy -en- Josas is home to the École des hautes études commerciales (HEC ) of a higher commercial school.

Also located in the town of one of the largest sites of the National Research Institute of Agronomy INRA, which is set in several acres of grounds on the outskirts.

Traffic

Jouy -en- Josas is through three stations ( Vauboyen, Jouy -en- Josas and Petit- Jouy les Loges ) RER C connected to the network of public transport in the Paris region.

Attractions

Worth seeing is the parish church of Saint- Martin and the grave of Christophe- Philippe Oberkampf. In the public cemetery Léon Blum is buried. The painter Georges Paul Leroux was buried in Jouy -en- Josas. The " Musée de la Toile de Jouy ," shows, since 1977, various printed Jouystoffe and the tools that were necessary for their preparation.
