Saclay

Saclay is a commune 18.6 km south west of Paris in the department of Essonne in the Ile- de -France region of France. The town has 3439 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) and is located in an agricultural area on a plateau of the same name. The water reservoir of the environment was for the supply of basins in the park of the Palace of Versailles.

The church of Saint -Germain dates from the 12th century. Saclay has no direct railway or metro connection. The nearest accessible by RER station Le Guichet in Orsay, 3.2 km south of the center of Saclay ( with RER line B ), or the station Vauboyen in northern Jouy -en- Josas ( RER C ).

In Saclay is a research center, founded in 1945, the French Commissariat à l' énergie Atomique et aux énergies alternative ( CEA2 ) for nuclear and elementary particle physics, nuclear technology, but also biology and materials science, with approximately 6,000 permanent employees ( 5000 Scientists ) (2008 ).
