Marcoussis

Marcoussis is a commune with 7987 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Essonne in the Ile- de -France region; it belongs to Arrondissement Palaiseau and Canton Montlhery.

The city is located about 25 km south of the center of Paris and was, until the 1960s, a city part of the vegetables, which supplied the halls of Paris, especially with tomatoes and strawberries.

History

The settlement developed around the Priory Saint wall groove branch of the same abbey in Normandy. 854 mentions a document of Charles the Bald possession in Marcoussis, initially only a winery of BUTION at Arpajon. When the monastery was BUTION lost, the monks settled in the early 12th century over after Marcoussis. A monk in the 13th century still lived here less than 120 inhabitants.

From 1404 to 1408 was Jean de Montaigu, the adviser of Charles VI. , Build here his castle, of which, are today only the foundations of a tower, Les Oubliettes available, rebuild the monastery and fill with Cölestinermönchen, and the parish church restoration, which now houses a marble statue of Mary is, the Duke Jean de Berry gave the Convention.
