Nozay (Essonne)

Nozay is a commune with 4736 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Essonne and the Ile- de -France region.

Geography

Nozay situated on the highest point of the Essonne department about 30 km from the center of Paris on the edge of the Unité urbaine capital. Because of its proximity to Paris and to the country, the place is a popular place for wealthy households. The real estate prices are well above the national level.

History

The town was first mentioned in a document from the year 768 as a donation of Pepin the Short to the abbey of Saint- Denis. For a long time Nozay belonged as the neighboring town of La Ville- du- Bois to rule Marcoussis. The Church of Nozay belonged, according to a document from the year 1061 to the priory Longpont.

Demographics

Nozay could increase tenfold its population since the early 1960s. By moving to the municipality located in the catchment area of Paris, the population had quintupled at the beginning of the 1980s of less than 500 residents to more than 2,500.
