Joviano de Lima Júnior

Joviano de Lima Júnior SSS ( born April 23, 1942 in Uberaba, Minas Gerais, Brazil, † June 21, 2012 in Ribeirão Preto, State of São Paulo) was Archbishop of Ribeirão Preto.

Life

Joviano de Lima Júnior 1964 joined the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament at and studied philosophy at Padre Machado Study Center (Centro de Estudos Padre Machado) in Belo Horizonte. After his profession in 1964, he studied Catholic theology at the Instituto de Filosofia e Teologia Paulo VI. in São Paulo, philosophy at the Universidade de Mogi das Cruzes and Social Sciences at the Faculdade Medianeira and liturgy at the Pontifical Athenaeum of Saint Anselm Studies in Rome. He received on 8 December 1969 in Uberaba ordination.

He was a pastor in Uberaba and several other cities in Brazil ( Diocese of Santo André, São Paulo Archdiocese ) and abroad (Dublin, Cleveland and New York City). For ten years he worked for his Order in Asia ( Vietnam, India, Sri Lanka, Philippines) and Africa. He was pastor of St. Iphigenia in São Paulo, Master of Novices and Superior of his Order and professor at the Pontifical Faculdade de Nossa Senhora da Assunção Teologia in São Paulo. From 1987 to 1993 he was active in the Order of the Blessed Sacrament performance. From 1993 to 1995 he was Vicar General of the Diocese of São Carlos.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 25 February 1995 as Bishop of São Carlos. As a motto he chose DEUS ESTÁ CONOSCO (Isa 41,10 EU). He received his episcopal consecration Archbishop Geraldo Majella Agnelo Curia on 27 December of the same year; Were co-consecrators Constantino Amstalden, Bishop Emeritus of São Carlos, and Benedito de Ulhoa Vieira, Archbishop of Uberaba.

On 5 April 2006 he was named Pope Benedict XVI. Archbishop of Ribeirão Preto.

Joviano de Lima Júnior took important positions in the Brazilian Bishops' Conference true, as delegate of the Pontifical Committee for International Eucharistic Congresses (2003-2009), President of the Episcopal Commission for Pastoral Liturgy (2007-2011) and chairman of the Commission for liturgical texts (2007 - 2011). He was chaplain of the Secular Institute Servitium Christ.

He wrote several books on liturgy and worked for several newspapers and magazines in Brazil, Italy and USA.
