Joy of a Toy

Joy of a Toy is the first solo album by Kevin Ayers, which was created after his exit from the band Soft Machine in 1968.

It appeared in 1969 with the label Harvest Records and was produced by Kevin Ayers and Peter Jenner. The album was recorded at Abbey Road Studios. Among the participating musicians included members of Soft Machine and Paul Buckmaster, even Syd Barrett of Pink Floyd took part in the sessions. The captured with him piece Religious Experience ( Singing A Song in the Morning ), however, was not included on the album and was released in 1970 as a single.

Reception

Joy of a Toy was reacted favorably by critics. The music magazine Rolling Stone gave it four out of five stars to be awarded. The Times described it as one of the best albums of all time.
