József Bajza

József Bajza ( born January 31, 1804 in Szücsi in Heves county, † March 3, 1858 in Pest ) was a Hungarian poet and writer.

Life

Bazja studied in Pest and entered 1823 as a staff Károly Kisfaludy Paperback Aurora, he of the same from 1830 to 1837 edited by Death itself. Although now in 1825 became a lawyer at the Reichstag clerk and 1829 in Pest, he devoted himself but mainly poetry, and his poems published in 1835 in Pest ( saponification, 2nd edition 1842) lined him among the best Hungarian poet.

In the Critical leaves, which he published from 1831 to 1836 at the Athenaeum, and the Figyelmezö ( " observers " ), which he published from 1837 to 1843, he practiced severe criticism by a positive impact on the Hungarian literature conceived in development. The Hungarian drama he was by the issue of the foreign stage ( Pest 1830) and later as artistic director of the National Theatre in 1837 opened to plague major suggestions were (see his signature Szózat a pesti magyar színház ügyeben, furnace 1839).

Later he devoted himself almost exclusively historical issues and made a Történeti Könyvtár ( " Historical Library ", Pest 1843-45, six volumes ) and a processed according to the German Uj Plutarch ( " New Plutarch ", Pest 1845-1847 ) out; but his was Világtörténet ( " world history", Pest 1847) only a cursory compilation of Friedrich Christoph Schlosser, Arnold Hermann Heeren and Karl von Rotteck works as well as from those of other German historian.

In 1847 Bajza took over on behalf of the opposition, the editorial policy of their pocket book Ellenör ( " the inspector ", Leipzig, 1847), and after the March 1848 Kossuth appointed him editor of Kossuth ' Hirlapja (July to December 1848). However, in this position, he developed no happy editorial talent. He was since 1832 a full member of the Hungarian Academy and the Kisfaludy Society, fell in 1850 but in an incurable mental illness. He died on March 4, 1858 in Pest. His collected works, in which a more no nonsense manifests itself as a vigorous poetic talent, published in two volumes ( Pest 1852).

His daughter Helene von Beniczky - Bajza (1840-1905), was also a writer.
