József Katona

József Katona ( born November 11, 1791 in Kecskemét, † May 16 1830 in Kecskemét ) was a Hungarian playwright.

József Katona studied law, was founded in 1810 and 1821 Lawyer Treasurer of the city of Kecskemét.

He wrote other dramas except the tragedy Bánk Bán, German: Bánk Banus, which is still in the repertoire of the Hungarian stage ( for the first time German by Adolf Dux, Leipzig 1858). He translated many works from German into Hungarian. In Budapest, a theater named after him.
