Juan Carreño

Juan Carreño ( born August 14, 1909 in Mexico City; † December 16, 1940 ibid ), nicknamed " El Trompito ", was a Mexican footballer, who acted in the position of striker. He is considered one of the best Mexican player ever and in his day was an idol of the masses. As a first goal scorer of Mexico both at the Olympic Games (1928 ) and in a World Cup (1930 ) he went twice in the annals of Mexican soccer history: he scored in Amsterdam on 30 May 1928 in the 80th minute the only goal in the 1:7 against Spain and in Montevideo on 13 July 1930 in the 70th minute the only goal in the 1:4 against France.

Biography

Juan Carreño was born in Corrito, a neglected neighborhood of the Mexican capital. With the sport of football, he started the club Tigres; a club that participated in the capital League 1917-1920. From there he moved to the soccer team of factory " La Sedanita ", which later was offered a few time to participate in Atlante.

Thus came Carreño 1927 CF Atlante to strengthen the team in a friendly match against the Chilean club Colo -Colo. His first official match for Atlante he played against Necaxa (2-2 ) in the 1927/28 season. For most of his career he played for Atlante, later moved to CF Asturias and died in 1940 at the age of 31 years at an appendicitis.
