Juan Hohberg

Juan Eduardo Hohberg out as Juan Edgardo Hohberg (* October 8, 1926 and October 8, 1927 at Alejo Ledesma, Córdoba, Argentina, † 30 April 1996 in Lima, Peru ) was an Argentine- Uruguayan football player and coach.

Playing career

Association

Hohberg began his career in 1941 initially as a goalkeeper for Argentino de Rosario in his native Argentina. In 1945, he joined the Club Atlético Central Córdoba. He came then as a field player and there on the position of the striker used. 25 games and 17 goals are listed División in Argentina Segunda for Hohberg with this club. The following year he moved to Rosario Central, where a total of 17 goals are included in 34 Erstligaeinsätzen for Hohberg for the seasons 1946-1948. In 1948 he moved to the neighboring country of Uruguay to the top club Peñarol, for whom he played until 1960. There he acquired in 1954, the Uruguayan citizenship. Hohberg was involved in a total of seven title wins the Uruguayan national championship (1949, 1951, 1953, 1954, 1958, 1959 and 1960 ) and was the last year of his club affiliation with his teammates also the time still known as the Copa Campeones de América Copa Libertadores and the Intercontinental Cup add to trophy cabinet of the association. In 1951 and 1953 he was División with 17 Goals scorer in the Primera. In the meantime, he undertook in 1958 an attempt in Portugal to play for Sporting Lisbon, but this failed because of the foreigner quota in the local competition. On his return from Portugal, the airplane was used by him, a DC-6, involved in an airplane accident when it crashed at the Ilha Grande into the sea. Hohberg lost here, although his belongings, but survived. In 1960 he then moved to local rivals Racing, for whom he completed six games and scored three goals. In 1961 he was still playing in Cúcuta Deportivo. There he met 19 times in 37 league matches. Also a time unspecified clarified station with Atlético Nacional in Medellín is headed for him.

National

Hohberg graduated from his debut on 10 April 1954 until his last mission on May 2, 1959 eight caps for Uruguay. He met three times into the opposing goal. He participated in the 1954 World Cup. In the semi-final match against the favorites from Hungary Hohberg scored two goals and forced the Hungarians into overtime. In this the Hungarians managed two goals to make it 4-2 late on.

Coaching career

As a trainer, sat at the Football World Cup 1970 as well as at least from February 1977 as part of the World Cup qualifiers for the tournament in 1978 as a coach on the bench of the Uruguayan Celeste. In 1974, he oversaw Universitario de Deportes and won the Peruvian championship. He could repeat in 1977 and 1978 with Alianza Lima this success. In addition, he coached in 1981 and 1982, the Ecuadorian national soccer team.
