Judy Oakes
Judy Oakes (actually Judith Miriam Oakes, born February 14, 1958 in Lewisham, London Borough of Lewisham today ) is a former British shot putter.
Starting for England, she won at the Commonwealth Games in 1978 in Edmonton bronze. Another bronze medal followed a year later at the Indoor Athletics Championships in Vienna in 1979.
In 1982, she won at the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane Gold. At the World Athletics Championships 1983 in Helsinki, she was twelfth. During the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and Fourth at the European Indoor Championships in 1984 in Piraeus Sixth
In 1986 a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh a 14th place at the European Championships in Stuttgart. In 1987, she finished sixth at the European Indoor Championships in Liévin, Ninth at the World Indoor Championships in Indianapolis and failed at the World Championships in Rome in qualifying. Also in the first round it was eliminated in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul.
The 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland took another silver medal, the 1991 World Championships, another Vorrundenaus. In 1994 she won the Commonwealth Games in Victoria with her fifth gold medal in a row. In 1995, she was eighth at the World Indoor Championships in Barcelona and was eliminated at the World Championships in Gothenburg in qualifying. The following year she was fourth. At the European Indoor Championships in Stockholm and Eleventh at the Olympic Games in Atlanta In 1997, she was tenth at the World Indoor Championships in Paris and came at the World Championships in Athens not go beyond the first round.
At the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, she defended her title. Your fourth at the Olympics in Sydney in 2000 ended in qualifying.
Judy Oakes was also active in powerlifting and weightlifting. Three times she became world champion of the International Powerlifting Federation: 1981 in the weight class up to 75 kg in 1982 and 1988 in the weight to 82.5 kg. At the World Weightlifting Championships she won bronze in the 1989 class to 82.5 kg.
