World Weightlifting Championships

The World Weightlifting Championships of men exist since 1891, Women since 1987. Organization and control of the implementation is subject to the Weightlifting World Federation International Weightlifting Federation.

Discharge cycle

Since 1937, the World Championships are held annually, and there was a suspension of competitions due to the Second World War between 1939 and 1945. Found only in the years of the Summer Olympic Games generally take no world championships. The introduced in 1987 women's competitions presented here represents an exception to this finally took place in 2000 inclusion in the Olympic program. In the six games 1964-1984 Olympic weightlifting competitions had simultaneous world championship status.

Weight classes
