Stanley Stanczyk

Anthony Stanley "Stan" Stanczyk ( born May 10, 1925 in Armstrong, Wisconsin; † 3 July 1997 in Miami) was an American weightlifter and Olympic champion in the light heavyweight division in 1948.

Career

Stanczyk grew up in Detroit. At age nine, he attended a sports club, where he boxed, wrestled, swam and even practiced with light weights. In 1941 he started at the coach Johnny krill serious about weight lifting. At the age of 17, he had reached the national top when he finished third in the middleweight division with 347.5 kg at the U.S. Championships in 1942. In 1943 he volunteered for the U.S. Army and spent most of the war in the Pacific theater. In 1945 he was discharged from the army. He immediately began training again.

1946 he was the mentor of the American weightlifting, Bob Hoffmann, noticed that overtook him in the same year to the York Barbell Club in New York by his good performances in some competitions. Despite this drastic treatment he became world champion. In 1947 he was first American middleweight champion when he beat Frank Spellman and John Terpak. Stan Stanczyk was also an excellent bodybuilder who has won many prizes in national competitions.

In 1949 he moved from New York in the warmer Miami. In 1951 he opened there with a partner, a sports school with a focus on weight lifting, which he gave up in 1955 and a bowling center opened, which he operated for 27 years. In 1953 he married and had two sons with his wife and two daughters.
