Frank Spellman

Frank Spellman ( born September 17, 1922 in Malvern, Pennsylvania ) is a former American professional weightlifter.

Career

He started relatively late, only in 1940 with the weight lifting. In 1942, he joined the U.S. Army and was used in Europe. He was involved among other things, the Allied invasion of Normandy. He survived the war unscathed and was honorably discharged from the Army in December 1945. He immediately began training again and joined the Barbell Club York, Pennsylvania, at. The success came quickly, in 1946, he was U.S. champion in the middleweight division with 375 kg in the Olympic triathlon. In 1946 he started for the first time at a World Cup. Highlight of his career was the Olympic gold medal in London in 1948. After this victory, he raised still some more years and was at U.S. Championships still show some good places, but qualifying for a major championship it was no longer possible. In 1952, he even tried to qualify at lightweight for the Olympic Games in Helsinki. He had to abtrainiert 8 kg of his body weight.
