Juergen Nogai

Juergen Nogai ( born July 2, 1953 in Jessen ) is a German photographer in the field of architecture and art photography. He lives in Santa Monica, California.

Life

Juergen Nogai was born in 1953 in Germany. He lived and worked as a free -lance photo - designer in Bremen, before he moved in 2000 to Los Angeles, where he entered into a creative partnership with the legendary architectural photographer Julius Shulman. The aged Shulman, who had already retired, saw the opportunity to come out of his retirement money and to take on new tasks in cooperation with Nogai. They worked together on projects for architects, institutions, publishers and private clients, including shots of the renovated Getty Museum, now in the Getty Research Institute. Shulman and Nogai worked exclusively with analog photographic technique in large-format cameras, the recordings work through composition and lighting.

With the death of his friend and business partner Julius Shulman on 15 July 2009 Nogai alone took over the copyright of the entire common archive.

End of 2005, the German Architecture Museum in Frankfurt am Main was for the most part work Shulman, as well as 20 photos from the collaboration Shulman & Nogai. October 2010, a major exhibition at the Museum Bassermannhaus the Reiss - Engelhorn Museums, under the title " Cool and Hot " has been opened, with loan from the Getty Research Institute (Los Angeles ) and partner Jürgen Nogai. His photographs are in the permanent collections of the 'Los Angeles County Museum of Art ', Palm Springs Art Museum, DAM Design and Architecture Museum, Frankfurt / Main, Orange County Art Museum, Ca. , Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Ca. , George Eastman House, Rochester, NY.

In addition to his work with Shulman Nogai had many separate projects, which led to numerous publications of picture books and nonfiction. He lectures at various institutions and taught in architectural photography in Palm Springs for five years workshops. He is now back in Germany and taught at the secondary school Achim various art courses.
