Jules Van Nuffel

Julius Joseph Paul Maria van Nuffel ( Jules Van Nuffel; born March 21, 1883 in Hemiksem (Belgium ), † 25 June 1953 in Wilrijk (Belgium ) ) was a composer, priest, church musician and music teacher.

Compositional style

His compositions form mainly motets, psalm settings and Messordinarien, so sacred music choral works. In addition, he composed some of Flemish songs. Van Nuffels choral music is characterized by an expressive melody, the harmony is marked by chromaticism, modulation and enharmonic. Many of his choral works, whose occupation by a polyphonic choir and an organ are formed, are designed for a large church, and put forward a well-staffed vocal choir. Originally conceived were the works for performances in the cathedral of Mechelen, one of the main sites of action van Nuffels.
