Julian Casablancas

Julian Fernando Casablancas ( born August 23, 1978 in New York) is an American singer and songwriter. He is best known as the lead singer of the band The Strokes.

Life

Julian's father, John Casablancas is a Spanish immigrant who founded an international modeling agency. His mother Jeanette Christiansen is a Danish model. When he was nine years old, his parents divorced and he was raised by his mother.

By the age of 14 he attended the French Lycée Français in New York. When he was picked up drunk, his father sent him for half a year at a boarding school in Switzerland. Finally, he attended to the eleventh class, the Dwight School in Manhattan. During this period, at three different schools, he learned later Strokes members know.

Casablancas finished his education with a degree from Five Towns College in classical composition before 1999, the band The Strokes Nikolai Fraiture founded, Albert Hammond Jr., Fabrizio Moretti and Nick Valensi, whose sole lead singer he is today. The sole songwriter he was up to the 2011 album Angles, in which he completely withdrew from the writing process and only einsang his vocals in the studio. Together, the five musicians published until 2011, four studio albums, each of which great commercial success was granted.

In addition to the band members also worked repeatedly on solo projects or projects with other bands. Casablancas played for example with the Queens of the Stone Age, Santogold and Pharrell, Danger Mouse, The Lonely Iceland and Sparklehorse. 2008 Casablancas began preparations for a solo album, which was released in November 2009 and the title Phrazes for the Young bears. The 2013 released album Random Access Memories by Daft Punk contains a collaboration with Julian Casablancas.

Since 2005, Casablancas is married to Juliet Joslin, the two have a son, Cal.
