Biography

Training

Jura Margulis studied at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg in the class of his father Vitaly Margulis and graduated from university with honors (1994). The change in the class of Leon Fleisher at the Peabody Institute, the Conservatory of Music of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore (USA), led to the Artist Diploma and Postgraduate Diploma Performance (1998). Further studies led Margulis at the Fondazione per il Pianoforte ( Cadenabbia ) on Lake Como in Italy, where, inter alia, with Murray Perahia, Alexis Weissenberg, Dmitri Bashkirov, Karl- Ulrich Schnabel and Fou T'song teaching he had (1993, 1994).

Concerts and Awards

Jura Margulis has performed from an early age in many countries of Europe and the world. As a soloist he has performed with orchestras such as the Russian National Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra under Charles Dutoit, the Southwest Radio Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Venezuela, the Prague Symphony Orchestra and the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra. He played in numerous festivals such as the Schleswig -Holstein Music Festival, the Berlin Festival with the Berlin Philharmonic, the Verbier Festival in Switzerland and the Argerich - Beppu Music Festival in Japan. He also won over a dozen awards at international competitions, including Busoni Competition in Italy and the Guardian Competition in Ireland. The European Cultural Foundation awarded him the prestigious Pro Europa prize. Margulis also look back on numerous first-class chamber music performances: His partners include Dmitri Sitkovetsky, the soloists of the Moscow Virtuosi, members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the St. Petersburg and Moscow String Quartet. As a founding member of the Fulbright Trio he enters the last 10 years on a regular basis in the United States. With Martha Argerich he appears as a duo partner in Germany, Japan and the United States.

His recordings are in the critically praised and awarded: Fono Forum released his CD of 2001 ( Schumann, Liszt, Debussy ), the term "highly recommended" and took it into the classical yearbook as one of only 12 reference recordings in the field of piano on. 2004 his CD was recorded with Russian repertoire in the top list of the German Record Critics. As an educator, Margulis is internationally and holds master classes in the USA, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Slovenia, Russia and Japan. Through its educational concept "The Unified Piano School, a combination of pedagogical and pianistic traditions ," he holds many places, lectures, as well as at the World Piano Pedagogy Conference in the U.S. and at the International Summer Academy Mozarteum in Salzburg. Since 1999 Jura Margulis holds a Chair of Piano at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville (USA). since 2008 Jura Margulis of the founding proprietor of the local Emily J. McAllister Endowed Professorship.
