Dmitry Sitkovetsky

Dmitry Sitkovetsky (Russian: Дмитрий Ситковетский, scientific transliteration Dmitry Sitkovetskij; born September 27, 1954 in Baku ) is a Russian violinist and conductor.

Life

Sitkovetsky is the son of pianist Bella Davidovich and a violinist Julian Sitkovetsky ( 1925-1958 ). He studied at the Moscow Conservatory from 1977 at New York's Juilliard School.

In 1979 he won the Fritz Kreisler Competition, was the violinist with many famous orchestras. Is known is his transcription of Bach's Goldberg Variations for string trio.

Since 1990, Sitkovetsky is also active as a conductor. He was chief conductor of the Ulster Orchestra Belfast, is Principal Guest Conductor of the Russian State Symphony Orchestra in Moscow, and since 2003 the General Music Director of the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra.

He is the uncle of the violinist Alexander Sitkovetsky.
