Jürgen Werner (footballer born 1935)

Jürgen Werner ( born August 15, 1935 in Hamburg, † 28 May 2002, Hamburg ) was a German football player.

Club career

Werner, emerged from his own youth of the club, played as a midfielder (then external rotor ) in the 1950s and early 1960s for Hamburger SV. Since 1946 he played in the youth departments of the HSV. In 1954 he was taken by Günter Mahlmann together with Uwe Seeler, Klaus Stürmer, Gerhard Krug and Horst Schnoor in the squad of the league teams. With the HSV he became German champion on June 25, 1960 by a 3-2 win against 1 FC Cologne. He was also the Team of the HSV on August 14, 1963 3-0 - was victory against Borussia Dortmund DFB Cup winner. However, he was most recently used in the second round on June 30, 1963 in a 5-2 win at Bayern Hof. He was also until 1963 eight times champion of the then Oberliga Nord and the North German Cup winners four times. Famous and feared by the opponents were his wide throw-ins. Since the Werner Lizenzspielertum, which was introduced with the creation of the Bundesliga for the players refused, he joined with the conclusion of the season 1962/63 back from active football. Overall, he was 1954-1963 on 171 missions in the Oberliga Nord in which he scored 14 goals for HSV. He also came to 7 inserts for HSV in the European Champions Cup.

Career in the national team

Werner debuted on April 5, 1953 in the German U- 18 national team in the play-off for seventh place against Luxembourg at the FIFA World Youth Tournament in Reims, which was lost with 2:3. His teammates were, among others Uwe Seeler, Klaus Stürmer and Ernst -Günter Habig. It remained his only youth international match. He also came on 23 September 1958, an insert in the U-23 youth team of the DFB in Kiel and Denmark. He also came 1957-1960 to 5 inserts in the selection of the North German Football Association. From 1961 to 1963 he played four times for the national team, scoring two goals there. Werner part of the German contingent of the soccer World Cup in Chile, but could not be used because of an injury.

After the active time

After a Latin and sports studies Werner went into the teaching profession, where he worked as headmaster and most recently in the clerkship in Hamburg. He remained a member of the club HSV, where he held in his last years, the role of Deputy Chairman. At times he also coached Union 03 Altona. When he was temporarily DFB Game Committee Chairman and entered into the public when the draws for the DFB Cup in appearance. He died aged 66 from cancer. His grave is in the cemetery Ohlsdorf.

After his death, the young power center of the HSV was given the name " Jürgen Werner School".
