Jury Talykh

Yuri Vitalyevich Talych (Russian Юрий Витальевич Талых; born 25 May 1990) is a Russian natural track luge. He starts at international competitions only in the single-seater and is in this discipline to the currently strongest athletes in his country. At the World Championships 2011, he won the bronze medal at the European Championships in 2012 and the gold medal in the team competition; in World Cup race, he went so far three times into the top ten. His best overall result is the tenth place in the season 2011 /2012.

Career

Yuri Talych took from 2007 International junior championships. In the Junior European Championships 2007 in St. Sebastian, he went on place 21 and at the Junior World Championship 2008 in Laces on rank 18, respectively as the second best Russian. On 18 January 2009 he played in Obergurgl his first World Cup race, which he finished at No. 27. But in the rest of the winter, he participated in no other competitions. Since the 2009/2010 season Talych starts regularly in the World Cup. This winter, he played five of the six races of the season and only took no part in the World Cup finals in Garmisch -Partenkirchen. He drove in all races into the top 20 and achieved his best result with twelfth place in Novouralsk for the season opener. He reached more than 100 World Cup points as the only Russian in the single-seater and was 20th overall. At the European Championships 2010 in St. Sebastian, his first international title fight in the General Class, Talych went as the second best Russian in the single-seater in 17th place and finished with Lyudmila Astramowitsch, Pawel Silin and Ivan Rodin in Team Russia II finished eighth in the team competition. In the two weeks thereafter discharged Junior World Championship 2010 in German oven he went as the best his country ranked 13 in the single-seater.

In the season 2010/2011 Talych was again the best Einsitzerpilot his country. After he had just missed in the opening race in Novouralsk twice the top 10, he drove in the third race of the season in tenth Gsies first time into the top ten. After that, his results deteriorated though, yet he reached the overall World Cup eleventh place. At the World Cup 2011 in Obergurgl, he finished 17th in single-seaters. He was the only Russian who raced in single seaters - all others had waived a start. In the team competition Talych won in Russia I team with Ekaterina Lawrentjewa, Pavel and Ivan Lazarev Porschnew with bronze his first medal. He benefited from the good times of his teammates, because Talych had gone only the seventh-best time in its course.

In the season 2011/2012 Talych drove in two World Cup races into the top ten ( eighth place in Olang and sixth in Novouralsk ), which he finished tenth in the overall World Cup. The greatest success of the winter, he celebrated at the European Championships 2012 in Novouralsk when he I in the same composition as at the World Cup last year won the gold medal in the team competition with Team Russia. He also reached the eleventh place in the single-seater.
