Justin Pierre Marie Macquart

Justin Pierre Marie Macquart (* 1778 in Hazebrouck, † November 25, 1855 in Lestrem ) was a French entomologist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Macquart ".

Life

Justin Pierre Marie Macquart was born in Hazebrouck, 45 kilometers west of Lille. During the French Revolution he went 1796 under the command of General Samuel Armand de Marescot ( 1758-1832 ) standing army of the Rhine, where he was secretary and draftsman. With the Army of the Rhine, he came to Switzerland. Two years later, he left the army and went back to Lille. Here he devoted himself to the study of insects and one of the founders of the Société d' Amateurs of Science and Arts of Lille. On 27 Messidor of the year 11 according to the French Revolutionary Calendar (1802 ) Macquart was elected a member of the Société des Sciences de l'Agriculture et des Arts de Lille.

At a Council of Pierre André Latreille out he specialized in the order of (Diptera ). 1826 appeared the first volume of his work Insectes Diptères du Nord de la France followed the numerous other publications on the Fly. 1839 sought Macquart Johann Wilhelm Meigen on in Stolberg and acquired for the Muséum national d' histoire naturelle in Paris whose notes and drawings.

At the suggestion of ornithologists Charles Bonaparte, he was elected Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences. In 1851 he received the award of Chevalier de la Légion d' Honneur.
