Messidor

The Messidor ( German also harvest month) is the tenth month of the Republican Calendar of the French Revolution. He follows the Glorious First, it follows the Thermidor.

The name is derived from French moisson ( harvest). The Messidor is the first month of the summer quarter ( mois d' été ). He begins around June 19 and ends around July 18.

Day names

Like all months of the French Revolution calendar had the Messidor 30 days, which were divided into three decades. The days were named after agricultural plants, except for the 5th and 10th day of each decade. The 5th day ( Quintidi ) was named after a pet, the 10th day ( Decadi ) to an agricultural implement.

The idea of Fabre d' Églantine, the four classic European cereals - wheat, rye, barley and oats - to dedicate a day in Messidor, was not accepted. The barley was moved to the Vendémiaire. D' Églantine also wanted to make a legendary horse / cow hybrid " Jumart " next to the mule. This idea was also not accepted.
