Frimaire

The Frimaire ( also German Mature month, frost month) is the third month of the Republican Calendar of the French Revolution. He follows the Brumaire, he follows the Nivôse.

The name is from the French Frimas ( frost, cold) derived. The Frimaire is the third month of the autumn quarter ( mois d' automne ). He begins around November 22 and ends around December 21.

Day names

Like all months of the French Revolution calendar had the Frimaire 30 days, which were divided into 3 decades. The days were named after agricultural plants, except for the 5th and 10th day of each decade. The 5th day ( Quintidi ) was named after a pet, the 10th day ( Decadi ) to an agricultural implement.

Contrary to the initial proposal of Fabre d' Églantine were the 8th and 11th Frimaire "honey" and named "wax". These two days names were initially intended for Nivôse. The principle to use except in Nivôse only plant names was broken up by the National Assembly.
