Germinal (French Republican Calendar)

The Germinal ( German and germ month) is the seventh month of the Republican Calendar of the French Revolution. He follows the Ventôse, it follows the Floreal.

The name is derived from French germer ( germinate ). The Germinal is the first month of the spring quarter ( mois de printemps ). He begins around March 21 and ends around April 19.

Day names

Like all months of the French Revolution calendar of Germinal had 30 days, which were divided into 3 decades. The days were named after agricultural plants, except for the 5th and 10th day of each decade. The 5th day ( Quintidi ) was named after a pet, the 10th day ( Decadi ) to an agricultural implement.

The 26th Germinal was initially the anemone, dedicated to the 27th the lilac. Later this day exchanged their role.
