Hazebrouck

Hazebrouck ( Flemish Hazebroek ) is a French town in the department of Nord, in the Nord -Pas -de- Calais in the historic West-Flemish -speaking region of Flanders French. Hazebrouck has 21 741 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) and is the capital of the cantons Hazebrouck Nord -Sud and Hazebrouck.

Location

Hazebrouck is 40 km from Dunkirk, 43 km from Lille, 56 km from Arras, 62 miles from Calais and 16 kilometers from the Belgian border. It is a quiet town, with predominantly residential areas.

History

Hazebrouck was an important supply post in the first world war for the Allies. Against this city is also the German Spring Offensive of 1918. Taught the Germans did not succeed in Hazebrouck take, whereby the offensive plan could not be fulfilled.
