Bourbourg
Bourbourg ( hook size: Broekburg ) is a commune with 7032 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Nord, in the Nord -Pas -de -Calais. It belongs to Arrondissement Dunkerque and is capital of the canton Bourbourg.
History
The name comes from the Flemish Broec borg, ie City in the swamp ( 1035: Brucburgh, 1309: Brouborgh ). The first traces of the place can be found in Kartularium the Abbey Ghent.
1790 Bourbourg was divided at the request of the rural districts in Bourbourg -Ville and Bourbourg -Campagne. The reunification of the two communities did not occur until after 1945.
