Houtkerque

Houtkerque, Dutch Houtkerke, is a commune with 997 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Nord, in the Nord -Pas -de -Calais. In Houtkerque West Flemish is spoken.

Geography

The municipality is located in Houtkerque French Flanders in the far north of France, about 25 kilometers southeast of Dunkerque and 20 kilometers west of Ieper (Belgium ). In the east, the municipality borders on Belgium (municipality Poperinge ), the river Yser forms the northern boundary of the municipality.

In addition to the closed settlement pattern of the village core are numerous scattered individual farms in the municipality of Houtkerque.

Neighboring communities of Houtkerque are Bambecque in the north, Poperinge in the east, the south and Winnezeele Herzeele in the West.
