Boeschepe

Boeschepe is a commune with 2193 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Nord, in the Nord -Pas -de -Calais. In Boeschepe West Flemish is spoken.

Geography

The municipality is located in Boeschepe French Flanders in the far north of France, about midway between the cities of Dunkirk and Lille. In the north and east of the municipal area borders on Belgium ( Poperinge communities and Heuvelland ). The mostly flat northern part of the municipality is crossed by the rivers Vlietbeek and Winterbeek which drain north to the Yser. In the south and east, three distinctive peaks of the West Flemish hills (West - Vlaams Heuvelland / Monts des Flandres ) raise: the 139 m high Boeschepeberg ( Mont de Boeschepe ), the 125 m high Kokereelberg ( Mont Kokereel ) and the 152 m high Zwarteberg ( Mont Noir ). The witnesses Mountains form a ridge on the north of the basin of the river Leie (Lys) separates the basin of the Yser ( Yser ) in the south.

In addition to the closed settlement pattern of the core location are in the municipality of numerous scattered farmsteads and hamlets and districts Abeele (French part of the continuing border to Belgium town Abele ), Confiscatie, Les Cinq Chemins Verts, Mont Kokereel, Oost Houck and Steenacker.

Neighboring communities of Boeschepe are Poperinge in the north, Heuvelland the east, Saint -Jans- Cappel in the south east, the south and Berthen Godewaersvelde in the West.

Folklore and Carnival

The Géants de Boeschepe ( German: Giants of Boeschepe ) are among the most in the region of Pas -de- Calais in northern France and in neighboring Belgium widespread traditional feasts on giant figures ( Géants du Nord ). Since 2005, the performances by UNESCO under the title processions of giants and dragons from Belgium and France are listed as Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The giant figures of Boeschepe hot Djoos de Bolder (Georges le Bouleur ) and Jérôme le Meunier.

Traffic

The Autoroute A25 from Dunkerque to Lille ( with a connection in the north-west Steenvoorde ) runs west from Boeschepe. Through the site, the department D10 road leading from Bailleul after Poperinge (Belgium ).
