Godewaersvelde

Godewaersvelde, West Flemish Godsvelde, Dutch also Godewaarsvelde, is a commune with 2026 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Nord, in the Nord -Pas -de -Calais. In Godewaersvelde West Flemish is spoken.

Geography

The municipality is located in Godewaersvelde French Flanders in the far north of France, about midway between the cities of Dunkirk and Lille. In the north the municipality borders on Belgium (municipality Poperinge ). The northern and western part of the municipality is mostly flat, in the south-east of the 164 m high Mont des Cats ( Katsberg ), the top of which share the communities Godewaersvelde, Berthen and Méteren rises. The survey represents a nearby mountain by several witnesses that the basin of the Yser ( Yser ) in the north of the basin of the river Leie (Lys) separates the ridge to the south.
