Justiniano Borgoño

Justiniano Borgoño Castañeda ( born September 5, 1836 in Trujillo, † January 27, 1921 in Lima) was a general and 1894 acting for six years president of Peru.

He joined the military in 1856 and participated as an officer in the saltpeter. In 1883 he was injured in the lost battle against the Chilean troops in Huamachuco.

On April 1, 1894 President Remigio Morales Bermúdez died after a short illness. While Peru was in a serious political crisis, the Council of Ministers transferred the presidency to the second Vice President (since 1890) Borgoño. He handled them democratically oriented First Vice-President Pedro Alejandrino del Solar, who is actually the official duties would constitutionally have to take.

This broke up the two chambers of parliament and called a general election. An alliance of Civil fashionistas and the Democratic Party, including Nicolás de Piérola in exile called for democratic elections and direct. As Borgoño refused and also deposed numerous local authorities, the opposition candidates decided not to participate in the ballot, which was then essentially contested by the supporters of the Partido Constitucional.

New president was on 10 August 1894, the national hero of the Salpeterkrieges, Andrés A. Cáceres.
