It is unclear whether the name is a form of the Hebrew name Judith or Old Norse which means from the tribe of Jutes.

The name is mentioned in the Bible in the Hebrew Scriptures. Jutta probably means " Outstretched place " or " Fully -Stressed place ". - Jutta should be a place in the mountainous region of Judah, which was the " sons of Aaron " is given as a priest city (Joshua 15:20, 48, 55, Joshua 21:13, 16). Jutta is identified with the present-day Jatta, situated on a ridge about 10 km south of Hebron.
