K'inich K'an Joy Chitam II

K'inich K'an Joy Chitam II ( born November 2, 644; † around 721? ) Was a ruler ( Ajaw ) of the Mayan city of Palenque. He ruled on May 30, 702 to about 711

Origin and family

K'inich K'an Joy Chitam II was on November 2, 644 ( Long Count 9.10.11.17.0, Calendar Round 11 Ahaw 8 Mak ), the son of K'inich Janaab ' Pakal I ( * 603, † 683 ) and born, his wife Tz'akbu Ajaw († 672 * to 612? ). He had two brothers: K'inich Kan Balam II its predecessor (* 635, † to 702) and Tiwol Chan Mat ( * 647, † 680), who never ruled itself, but the progenitor of all still on K'inich K'an Joy Chitam II should be following rulers.

Reign

K'inich K'an Joy Chitam II ascended the throne on 30 May 702 ( 9.13.10.6.8, 5 Lamat 6 Xul ) at the age of 57 years. About his early reign, apart from its construction little is known. So he said about the new building begun under his father the palace further additions added. It was not until the year 711 has been handed an incisive political event. This year, there was a campaign against Palenque by the neighboring state Toniná that led to the capture of K'inich K'an Joy Chitam II. His fate is controversial.
