Kailahun

Province

Kailahun is a city in the east of Sierra Leone near the border with Guinea and Liberia. It is the capital of Kailahun District, located in the Chiefdom Luawa in the Eastern Province. The city is located 293 km north-east of Freetown.

Population

The population consists of the Kissi and Mende immigrants. In the censuses were 1963 5419, 1974 7184 and 1985 9054 determined residents. At the last census in 2004 13108 inhabitants were counted.

Economy

Kailahun is a regional center and therefore market and transit point for cattle, cocoa and coffee.
