The Eastern Province ( German Eastern Province ) comprises the eastern part of the West African country Sierra Leone. It has 1,191,539 inhabitants and an area of 15,553 square kilometers.

Eastern comprises the three districts of Kailahun, Kenema and Kono and continues to be divided into 44 chiefdoms. Provincial capital is Kenema, which is also the capital of the district of Kenema.

Infrastructure

The province decreed 2006 on 216 health facilities, including three government hospitals. 950 primary schools and 65 secondary schools can be found in the province, half of them in the district of Kenema. There are province wide 49 vocational schools. 25 percent of residents have access to potable water.
