In Cold Spring New York Naina and Rohit meet the charismatic Aman. Naina Kapur lives with her mother, grandmother and her brothers and sisters in New York. Since her father has taken his own life, the family is both financially and humanly brought out of balance. Naina is forced between their quarrelsome grandmother and downcast mother to convey to care for their younger siblings and at the same time to monitor nor the finances. With all the efforts to keep her family together, their is hardly any time for their very own lives. Hobbies and parties seem like a foreign word for it. But Naina has resigned to their fate and lives a joyless, but disciplined life. My college friend Rohit, a charming wannabe womanizer, and the untwisted girlfriend Sweetu are their only distraction, but they rarely are able to free themselves from their deep sadness.
What a relief suddenly enters their lives Nainas neighboring Aman. He is full of joy and has taken it into his head, Naina leave some of it. His first attempts fail, however. Although he wins with ease the hearts of the rest of the family, but Naina is stubborn. Only a rollicking disco visit brings the ice to melt timid. At the Filmfare Awards 2004 Preity Zinta was honored for her portrayal of Naina as Best Actress.
Saif Ali Khan and Jaya Bachchan won the awards for Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress. Khan was also awarded for the Moto Look of the Year.
Shankar Mahadevan, Loy Mendonsa and Ehsaan Noorani received the award for Best Music.
Javed Akhtar was awarded for the lyrics to the title song of Kal Ho Naa Ho Sonu Nigam and as Best Playback Singer for the same song.

Sanjay Sankla won the " Screen Weekly" for the best film editing and Karan Johar for best screenplay. Saif Ali Khan was honored as Best Supporting Actor.
He was in the same category and the Zee Cine Award. Yash Johar also won a Popular Award for Kal Ho Naa Ho, however, as the best song of the year.
