Kalksburg

The independent municipality until 1938 Kalksburg is now a part of the 23rd district of Vienna Liesing and one of the 89 Vienna Katastralgemeinden.

The name is derived from Chalbsperger, at times the town also Calf Mountain, Kalksdorf and Kadoltsperg was called.

Geography

Today's cadastral Kalksburg occupies an area of 375.7 hectares.

The village lies on the edge of the southern Vienna Woods, near the Natural Park Föhrenberge and the Lainzer Tiergarten. The Breitenfurterstraße ( by Kalksburg also part of the B 13) connects the Meidling, Liesing and width ford crosses the center, Kalksburg Church Square.

The forest and meadow area in the northwest part of the southern Kalksburgs flysch zone, the one in the northeast to Frankenfels ceiling of the Northern Limestone Alps. History

In 1188 the family of " Chalbsberger " was first mentioned. The Viennese citizens Hospital - Forest south of Liesing between Kalksburg and Breitenfort was first mentioned in 1289 and was one of the economic foundations of the hospital. He is the first documented for the Vienna Bürgerspitalswald.

Culture and sights

The present parish church Kalksburg is a 1801 finished, neo-classical building according to the plans of the Tyrolean architect Johann Baptist sable. Separately recognized as a natural monument, the sky meadow with its rare plants and animal species, geological rock outcrop above the Kalksburger cemetery and a wild pear tree at the Jägerweggasse.

Economy and infrastructure

With some six hectares of vines Kalksburg one of the Viennese wine regions.
