Kalusha Bwalya

Kalusha Bwalya (and often only Kalusha or Kalu; born August 16, 1963 in Mufulira, Northern Rhodesia ) is a former Zambian football players in the position of a striker and winger. After having worked as a football coach at the end of his active football career, since 2008 he is president of the Football Association of Zambia, the Zambian Football Association.

Career

The left-footed Bwalya is regarded as the best player in his home country as well as a pioneer of the Zambian soccer ball and the African soccer ball in Europe in the 80s.

Bwalya was a member of the Zambian national team that took part in the 1988 Olympic Games. In 88 A- international matches he scored 32 goals. He made his debut against Uganda in 1983 and appeared in several tournaments, including six editions of the African Cup of Nations. In 1988 he was elected to the African Footballer of the year.

Kalusha Bwalya, the man with the number 11 led the team as captain for the runner-up at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations 1994 Tunisia. The national team finished the next edition of the African Nations Cup in South Africa in 1996 to third place, with Kalusha was awarded the Golden Boot as top scorer of the tournament.

For the qualification for World Cup 2006, he was player-manager. On September 5, 2004 in the match against Zambia Liberia Kalusha came at the age of 41 years in the second half off the bench and scored the winner. However, Zambia finished the qualifying in third place and did not qualify for the World Cup 2006.

Despite the failure Zambia Bwalya coached at the African Cup of Nations 2006. After leaving in the first round, he resigned from the post. However, he continued to participate actively in international football and was the 2006 World Cup member of FIFA's Technical Study Group. He was also one of the ambassadors for the 2010 World Cup, held in South Africa. Bwalya is now president of the Football Association of Zambia.
