Kamskoye Ustye

Kamskoje Ustje (Russian Камское Устье; Tatar Кама Тамагы / Kama Tamağı ) is an urban-type settlement in the Republic of Tatarstan (Russia) with 4482 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The village is situated some 70 km ( straight line ) south of the capital of Republic of Kazan on the high right bank of the Volga River opposite the mouth of its largest tributary of Kama (Russian Kamskoje Ustje for Kamamündung ). The here for Kuibyshev Reservoir accumulated Volga reaches below Kamskoje Ustje a width of 12 km, the Kama front of the mouth - more than 20 km. History

The place has its origins in the village Bogorodskoje, which was founded at the beginning of the 17th century under the present settlement on today flooded by the Volga reservoir shore. First mentioned it in 1692 as a possession of the Metropolitan of Kazan and Swijaschsk.

Because of its convenient location just a few kilometers above the Kamamündung performed particularly trade, supply of river navigation, ship repair and fishing. From the end of the 18th century the village belonged to Ujesd Tetjuschi of the government of Kazan.

Towards the end of the 19th century the village was known by his unofficial middle name Kamskoje Ustje. During this time held in spring each year up to 10,000 people in Bogorodskoje on to hire on the Volga and Kama after the melting of ice on ships or as Treidler.

On August 4, 1925 Kamskoje Ustje was in place of the religious " preloaded " Bogorodskoje (of Russian Bogorodiza for Mother of God ) the sole place name. Culture and sights

The main attraction is the high bank of the Volga with the mountain Lobach and several natural caves in the steep slope ( Yourievskaya, Konnodolskaja ). In Kamskoje Ustje is the Museum of the Rajons opened in 1992.

Since the 19th century is near revered " holy spring ", in which an Orthodox chapel, which is currently being restored. In 2000, a new mosque was built.

Economy and infrastructure

Kamskoje Ustje is the center of an agricultural region. Largest operation is a dairy. Is eight kilometers away in the village Tenischewo since 1911 a gypsum quarry in operation.
