Kanden Tunnel Trolleybus

The Kanden Tunnel Trolleybus (Japanese関電 トンネル トロリー バス, Kanden tonneru tororībasu ) is next to the Tateyama Tunnel Trolleybus one of today two trolleybus operations in Japan. The 6.1 km long route in the prefectures of Toyama and Nagano was opened on 1 August 1964. As a special feature runs on 5.8 kilometers underground. Legally, the operation is considered railroad. Operating company, the power company Kansai Denryoku, abbreviated Kanden.

The tunnel was originally built for the construction of the hydroelectric plant near the city of Kurobe. It connects Ogisawa in the city Ōmachi with the Kurobe Dam on the boundary of the city Tateyama. He passes under the 2678 meter high mountain Akazawa and is now part of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. The track also has a tourist, it is only operated from April to November.

A total of 16 solo buses are available, they bear the registration numbers 301-316 and were built between 1993 and 1996. The vehicles also have an auxiliary engine. This is used for the rides in the non-electrified depot.
