Kurobe, Toyama

Kurobe (Japanese黒 部 市, - shi) is a city in Japan on the eponymous river in Toyama prefecture on the island of Honshu.

Geography

The city is located in the scenic surroundings of the Japanese Alps. In its vicinity is located at 3015 meters above sea level the mountain Ushiru Tateyama. At the same Kurobe River, after whom the city is named, is the built in 1956-1963, with 186 meters height largest arch dam in Japan: the Kurobe Dam.

History

Kurobe was established on April 1, 1954 by merging the municipalities Sakurai (桜 井 町, machi ) and Ikuji (生地 町, machi ) of the district Shimoniikawa.
