Kanturk

Kanturk ( Irish: Ceann Toirc; engl.: "Main of the boar ") is a town in County Cork in the southwest of Ireland.

The place

Kanturk is a small market town at the confluence of the River Allow and Dallow in the northwestern inland areas of the county Cork. The town developed in the 17th century from an existing settlement. After they remained unchanged for a long, the population increased between 2002 and the 2006 Census from 1651 to 1915 people. Partners town of Kanturk is Rostrenen in Brittany.

Transport links

Kanturk is situated just north of the National Road N72 Mallow to Killarney; Mallow is about 15 km from Killarney 40 km away. About regional roads inter alia, Kanturk is connected to Abbeyfeale on the N21 and the N20 from Limerick to Charleville City to Cork City, where the distance to the two cities is about 50 per km. On the rail transport in Ireland Kanturk is no longer connected since 1963.
