Kaori Momoi

Kaori Momoi (Japanese Kaori Momoi桃井 かおり; born April 8, 1952 in Tokyo, Japan ) is a Japanese actress. In its over 35 - year career, she turned to 2012 more than 60 films.

Biography

Momoi was born in 1952 in Tokyo. At the age of twelve, she moved to London to study dance at the Royal Ballet School. After three years she returned to Tokyo. She graduated at the Japanese theater company Bungakuza - School of Dramatic Arts. 1971 debuted Momoi in To Love Again by Kon Ichikawa.

As an actress, she worked with famous directors such as Akira Kurosawa ( Kagemusha - The Shadow Warrior, 1980) Tatsumi Kumashiro ( Seishun no Satetsu, 1974), Yoji Yamada ( The Yellow Handkerchief, 1977 and Otoko wa Tsuraiyo, 1979), Shohei Imamura ( Why Not?, 1981), Shunji Iwai ( Swallowtail Butterfly, 1996) Jun Ichikawa (Tokyo Yakyoku, 1997), Mitani Koki ( Welcome Back, Mr. McDonald, 1997), Yoshimitsu Morita (Like Asura, 2003) and Takashi Miike ( izo, Sukiyaki Western Django ).

She played in 2005 in The Sun of director Alexander Sokurov and Memoirs of a Geisha by Rob Marshall.

For her performance, she won many awards in Japan. She won the Japanese Academy Awards twice in the Best Actress category and once in the Best Supporting Actress category. In addition, she was nominated as Best Actress at the New York International Film Festival in 1983 for her role in Giwaku.

In addition to her acting Momoi also pursued various film projects as a producer, director, writer and designer. They also published over 15 albums as a singer and published essays.

She won the award for Best Actress at the 7th Hochi Film Awards for her role in Giwaku.
