Karin Erskine

Karin Elizabeth Erskine ( born February 26, 1945 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish designer.

Life and work

Erskine was born in Stockholm district Engelbrekts församling. She attended an art school in Stockholm and worked at the National Theatre ( Old Vic Theatre ) as well as for the BBC in London. Then she became a freelance costume designer. She works for film and television, opera and theater.

Erskine was responsible for the costume design in Ingrid Bergman's musical film The Magic Flute. In 1976 she was awarded jointly with Henny Noremark ( b. 1942 ) an Oscar nomination for Best Costume Design.

Erskine took twice for Sweden at the Prague Quadrennial (PQ ) in part, an international scenography Competition in Prague. In 1999, she designete the costumes for A Dream Play, an exhibition in honor of August Strindberg. In 2003, she won together with Lars- Ake Thessman, who designed the sets, the gold medal of PQ in the category Complex realization of a single production. The award was given its spatial design of the play Electra.

For Erskine's current work, the costume sets for the operas L' incoronazione di Poppea (2009), The Rake 's Progress at the Det Kongelige Teater and GöteborgsOperan in Gothenburg (2009/ 2010), Don Giovanni at Drottningholm Slottsteater (2010), Alcina belongs at the Stockholm Drottningholm Slottsteater on GöteborgsOperan (2011), The Turn of the Screw on Läckö Castle (2011) and Un ballo in maschera at the Royal Opera House Folkoperan (2012 ). In the fall of 2012, she designed the costumes for the stage performance of scenic cantata Carmina Burana at Folkoperan. The Sveriges Radio broadcast in March 2011, an interview with Erskine and mentioned in a review praising the custom of their elegant tuxedos and cocktail dresses in the performance of Alcina.
