Karkamış

Karkamış (Kurdish Girgamêş ) is a city and the name of a district in the Turkish province of Gaziantep in Southeast Anatolia. The city has 3,409 Karkamış and the county 11,860 inhabitants ( 2008). Karkamış is located in the southeast of the province, bordering the province of Şanlıurfa and Syria. Here is a border crossing to the Syrian city of Dscharabulus. The city lies on the River Euphrates Karkamış.

The city is named after the ancient city of Carchemish.
