Karl Friedrich Henckell

Karl Friedrich Henckell ( born April 17, 1864 in Hannover, † 30 July 1929 in Lindau, on Lake Constance ) was a German poet and writer.

Life

Henckell studied philosophy, philology and economics in Berlin, Heidelberg, Leipzig, Munich and Zurich. He was in touch with Michael Georg Conrad, Martin Griffin, Hermann Conradi, Otto Erich hard life, John Henry Mackay, Hermann Sendelbach, Adolf Bartels, inter alia, and was co-editor of Modern Poets Characters (1885 ). In June 1888 Henckell cried with a stop on the bulletin board of the University of Zurich establishing a " Ulrich Hutten Federal " on; the program of the social-democratic oriented association that also " young Germany " was called, included the struggle for modern humanity and truth. Zurich was also of publication of socially critical poetry books Henckell, the 1885 - 1890 published until Henckell could the next collection Trutznachtigall with the second of publication Leipzig bring out. At times, he lived a long time in Milan, then in Vienna, Brussels and from 1890 again in Zurich. In the same year he acquired the citizenship of Zurich Stallikon and thus the Swiss Bürgerrecht.1895 he was in Zurich a publisher. In 1896 he published the poetry book Passiflorae of Gertrud Pfander in its publisher. In 1897 he married Anny Haaf Haller. 1902 moved Henckell to Berlin -Charlottenburg in 1908 in Munich. Most recently, he lived in Muri bei Bern.

At the memorial service held in Konstanz at the request of the late poet Mannheim writer Fritz Droop the memorial speech.

The newspaper " People's Law" dedicated to him a long obituary. It was held that he who had the honorary title workers poet worn 40 years, came from the middle class " as a fighter and the transmitter to the proletariat ": " For him it was all or nothing, not merely to the literary revolution. " Even outside of the working class to have understood " that Henckell is a poet who contributes to the glory of the German spirit ."

His brother Gustav Henckell was the co-founder of the cannery Hero in Lenzburg.

In 1930 in Vienna Penzing ( 14th district ) was named the Henckellgasse after him.
