Karl Holl

Karl Holl ( born May 15, 1866 in Tübingen, † May 23, 1926 in Berlin) was a professor of theology and church history in Tübingen and Berlin and is considered an important church historian.

Life

Karl Holl studied philosophy and theology at the Evangelical Tubingen. He also joined the fraternity Normannia. During his short Vicariate in Württemberg, he received a doctorate in phil. and in 1891 Repetent at Tubingen. Since 1894, at the instigation of Adolf von Harnack as a graduate assistant at the Prussian Academy of Sciences worked, he habilitated in 1896 at the Berlin Faculty of Theology. In 1901 he was an associate professor of church history in Tübingen, in 1906 he was a full professor in Berlin. On 17 December 1914 he was also admitted as an ordinary member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences. He was also from 1912 to 1926 Ephorus the Protestant Theological Seminary Johanneum in Berlin. His tomb is located on the southwest Stahnsdorf.

Teaching

Karl Holl's theological development is marked by the " Tübingen School " mentioned mindset Ferdinand Christian Baur. He has published numerous studies on Martin Luther, which to this day fundamental importance is attached to.
