Karl Julius Weber

Karl Julius Weber (born 16 or April 20, 1767 in Langenburg, † July 19, 1832 in copper cell; well written Carl Julius Weber ) was a German writer and satirist important.

Biography

Karl Julius was a son of Elias Christoph Friedrich Weber (1733-1782) and his wife Eva Maria Friederica (1739-1803), née Shepherd. The father was steward and princely bailiff in Langenburg, the mother 's maid of Princess Eleonore of Hohenlohe- Langenburg ( 1734-1813 ). Weber attended the Latin School in Langenburg and from 1782 onwards the school in Öhringen before he studied law in Erlangen and to 1790 in Göttingen (here also with his compatriot Hohenlohe between August Ludwig von Schlozer ). In French-speaking Switzerland, he then took a private tutor, where he became familiar with French literature and philosophy, and in 1792 private secretary to the Count of Erbach- Schönberg, 1799 Councillor (later Councilor ) of the Cabinet Office to King in the Odenwald. In 1802 he joined as the Court and Government in Isenburgsche services to accompany the Hereditary Count on his travels.

The job with the Counts of Isenburg - Büdingen ended in a quarrel, to which Weber took his leave and the family of his sister in Jagsthausen, then Weikersheim, Künzelsau and eventually lived in copper cell. From 1820 to 1824 he represented the upper office Künzelsau in the Württemberg Diet Assembly.

He died on July 20, 1832 in copper cell, where he was buried. At his behest want to smoke cigars at his grave and somersaults.

His self-chosen grave inscription was:

Work

As a writer, Weber first appeared with his Möncherei (Stuttgart 1818-20, 3 volumes), a history of monasticism. This was followed by the chivalry (Stuttgart 1822-1824, 3 volumes).

His matured and most famous works (Stuttgart 1834-1844, 30 volumes ) are: Germany, letters or a traveling in Germany German (Stuttgart 1826-1828, 3 volumes, 3rd edition, set up as a guidebook in 1843, 6 volumes. ) And the unfinished Democritus, or papers left behind a laughing philosopher (Stuttgart from 1832 to 1840, 12 volumes; 8th edition 1870 and 1888); the latter is his most famous work.

Weber is known as the most important author of Hohenlohe.
