Karl Wilhelm Ernst Joachim Schönborn

Karl Wilhelm Schoenborn ( born May 8, 1840 in Breslau, † December 10, 1906 in Würzburg ) was a German surgeon and university lecturer.

Life

Schoen Born's father was a school principal in Wroclaw. After graduating from the Mary Magdalene Gymnasium in Breslau Schoenborn studied medicine in Breslau, then in Heidelberg, Göttingen and finally Berlin, where he passed his doctorate in 1863 and 1864, the university exams. In 1863 he was assistant to Robert Friedrich Wilms at Berlin Bethanien Hospital. From 1864 to 1971 he worked at the Second Surgical University Clinic under Bernhard von Langenbeck, he because of his wartime absence represented in 1870 as Head of the Department, the Empress Augusta Hospital and the Jewish Hospital. After the end of the Franco-German War (1871 ) he was appointed at the request of Empress Augusta against the proposal of the Faculty on the surgical chair the Albertus University of Königsberg, though he was not qualified as a professor. 1881/82 he was vice-rector of the Albertina. In 1886 he accepted an appointment at the Julius- Maximilians- University of Würzburg. 1891/92 he was its rector. Several times he was Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. He died at the age of 66 from pneumonia.

Schoenborn had an outstanding reputation as a surgeon and clinician, organizer and teacher. 1890, a new hearing and the operating room was built under it. He expanded the area of ​​the surgery on the ear, nose and throat diseases, urology and orthopedics.

Schoenborn was married to Rose Küstner. Her son Walter Schoenborn (1883-1956) was Full Professor of Law in Heidelberg and Kiel, their son Siegfried Schoenborn (1874-1966) Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Chief Physician in Remscheid.
